BAPTISM

WHAT IS BAPTISM?

Baptism is an outward expression of an inward change that has taken place in our lives after we have placed our faith and trust in Christ. Lowering into the water symbolizes dying to your old life without God. You are then raised to a new life living like Jesus. Although different church traditions practice baptism in different ways, baptism has been practiced since the time of Jesus.

WHY SHOULD YOU CONSIDER BAPTISM?

Jesus modeled the importance of baptism. In Matthew 3, Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River before he began his ministry. Later on in Matthew 28, Jesus tells his followers to tell others about him and baptize them!

It’s an opportunity to share what Jesus has done in your life. Baptism is a public declaration of who the leader is of your life. It is an opportunity to publicly share your decision to make Jesus leader of your life. Jesus has changed your life and telling your story of who he has been to you and what he has done in your life is important for your faith and the faith of others!

It’s a powerful symbol of your new life in Christ. Baptism symbolizes your good standing with God. You are saved by grace through faith when you believe. It washes that truth over you in a real and meaningful way. In going under the water and coming back up, you are acting out the death and resurrection of Jesus and the fact that, because of Jesus, the old you has died and the new you that loves Jesus and wants to serve him is alive!
