What we’re learning this week:
This week’s teaching looks at James 1:19–27, where James says that hearing God’s Word isn’t enough. We must do what it says. If we don’t, we’re like someone who looks in a mirror and forgets what they look like right away. Using SOAP helps us slow down, learn from the Bible, and let it change the way we live.
Bottom Line: We are not only called to read Gods Word, but to live it out as well.
Scripture: James 1:19-27
Small Group Discussion:
Use this time to help students see that Jesus meets them in their own “ordinary” (school, sports, home, etc.) and is asking them for their next yes too. Discuss 1-3 questions and end by sharing prayer requests and praying together
ICEBREAKER: What is something you've wanted to do... but never did it?
Maddy compared reading the Bible without living it out to looking in a mirror and forgetting your own face. Why do you think it’s so easy to read or hear something from the Bible and forget about it a few minutes later?
Maddy said, “We don’t read God’s Word to be informed on how to live. We read God’s Word to be transformed.” What do you think the difference is between knowing what the Bible says and letting it change you?
Last week, Luke challenged everyone to try SOAP each day. Be honest: how did it go? What is one thing that would help you actually stick with it this week?
