March 23 - High School
What we’re learning this week:
How do you grow as a follower of Jesus? How can I prioritize God instead of worldly things? How can I overcome temptation in my life? These are among the many questions that were asked when we surveyed students in January. During this series, we are going to get practical by showing students how their faithful pursuit of Jesus day by day can put them in position to live the life God has called them to live. This week, we will be talking about the fact that being faithful to the work God has called you to each and every day will end up making a lasting impact for His Kingdom.
Bottom Line: The great work of your life will be shown by what you do consistently.
Scripture: Nehemiah 2:17-18, 6:2-3, 6:15-16
Car ride home questions:
Below are some questions you can ask your student about the teaching tonight as you help them unpack what they’ve been learning.
What is your “great work” right now? I’d love to hear what one good thing you feel like God has invited you to do!
Is there something I can do in our relationship to help cheer you on or support you in your “great work”?
Spiritual Practice at home:
The practice of silence is a spiritual discipline that creates space to hear God's voice by stepping away from the noise of daily life. In this practice, it is encouraged to sit in silence and reflect on questions that help to discern your unique purpose God has for you. By eliminating distractions, you can focus on where there is brokenness in the world, what gifts God has given you, and how you can take a step forward in faith. This practice mirrors Jesus’ example in Luke 5:16, where He withdrew to be alone with the Father.
To do this at home, simply find a quiet space, set an intentional time for silence, reflect on these guiding questions, and be open to what God may be speaking to you.
What breaks your heart? (Where do you see hurt, injustice, or a need that stirs something deep inside you?)
Where in your world do you see a need for God’s light? (A place in your life, school, or community where God’s love, truth, or hope is missing?
What has God given you to bring to your work? (Your gifts, skills, or opportunities?)
What distractions or adversaries might try to pull you away? (Fears, doubts, or outside pressures?)
How is God inviting you to start your great work this week? (What’s one step you can take?)
Things to know:
-
We are encouraging our students to bring a physical bible to Lifeline this year! We’re going to be more intentional about opening it up and reading for ourselves as we walk through a teaching. If you our your student need assistance getting a bible, don’t hesitate to talk with our staff!
-
We have launched a new Grow resource page to help students take practical next steps in areas of their faith. Some are more devotional in nature while others are meant to be a bit more information to help grow their understanding. A student can walk through these alone or it could be something you go through with them. The current topics we have are all available here on our Grow page.
