October 20 - High School

What we’re learning this week:

As we begin our series about relationships and sexuality, we will look at the story of Joseph in the Old Testament. Joseph had hundreds of reasons to go his own way and sin against God. In walking through Joseph's background and the cultural norms of his day, students will be asked to consider the many reasons why they would have to go their own way. Students will be compelled to begin this series with a commitment to trust God and align themselves with His ways just like Joseph did.

Bottom Line:  The one reason to trust God is worth more than the hundreds of reasons to do your own thing.
Scripture: Genesis 39:6-10; Matthew 13:45-46

Car ride home questions:

Below are some questions you can ask your student about the teaching tonight as you help them unpack what they’ve been learning.

  1. What cultural norms seem to pressure the people in your life to live their own way the most?

  2. If you could change one thing about how I talk to you about relationships or sexuality, what would it be? (If they’re courageous enough to share, make sure to thank them for sharing!)

Things to know:

  • We are encouraging our students to bring a physical bible to Lifeline this year! We’re going to be more intentional about opening it up and reading for ourselves as we walk through a teaching. If you our your student need assistance getting a bible, don’t hesitate to talk with our staff!

  • We have launched a new Grow resource page to help students take practical next steps in areas of their faith. Some are more devotional in nature while others are meant to be a bit more information to help grow their understanding. A student can walk through these alone or it could be something you go through with them. The current topics we have are all available here on our Grow page.
