What we’re learning this week:

We’re beginning our relationship series! “Outdated” will cover the questions of why, who, and how we date. Tonight, we are addressing the question “why” by talking about the gift of singleness. In 1 Corinthians 7, Paul makes it quite clear that the life of a single person can be more fully devoted to the Lord than those who are married. Often, we view singleness as the gift no one wants to be stuck with, but the Bible explains it as a powerful gift of God. We’ll be explaining to students why singleness is a gift and how to use it properly.

Bottom Line: Singleness is a gift, not a problem to be solved.
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 7:32-35

Small Group Time:

LEADERS TESTIMONY: Before you ask your students these questions, share with your group a time in your life when you believed a lie about being single. What was the lie, and what did God teach you in that time?

  1. Fill in the blank: If I’m single, I’ll never _____________

  2. Do you view singleness as a gift or a curse? Why?

  3. Of these three – consistently serving others, intentionally investing in friendships, and spending time alone with God, which ones do you think you do well, and which areas of your life would you like to improve?

  4. How can you use this season of your life to improve in these three areas?
