What we’re doing this week:

What does the Bible say about relationships and love? More importantly, what does any of it have to do with how you live your life as a sixth, seventh, or eighth-grade student? When we explore what God’s Word says about love and relationships, we don’t just see commands and truths to apply when we start dating or get married, we see the beautiful ways that God calls us to live right here and now!

As we begin our “Relationship Goals” series, we are going to look at Jesus’ top 2 commands for His people: Love God and Love others. Following this command can completely transform your life and how you treat your friends, parents, and future dating relationships. During this conversation, we will discuss how these commands are 1) Simple 2) Challenging and 3) Relational.

Bottom Line: Love God. Love people. Start today.

Scripture: Mark 12:28-31, John 14:15, 1 John 4:7-12

Key Verse: We love because he first loved us. -1 John 4:19

Small Group:

  • In your own words, what’s the connection between the command to love God with everything / love people and having healthy relationships?

  • How do you think having a close relationship with Jesus would impact your relationships? Be specific!

  • Where would you say you are on your journey of getting to know Jesus?

    • I don’t really know anything about Jesus and wouldn’t call myself a Jesus follower

    • I once made a decision to follow Jesus, but I don’t really feel like my relationship with him impacts my everyday life.

    • I don’t know much of what Jesus commands or teaches, but as I am learning, i’m trying to follow his ways.

    • My faith in Jesus guides how I live my everyday life!

    • I am interested in making a decision to follow Jesus.

  • Luke talked about how the command to love God / love others is challenging because of the world around us and the sin in us; which of those two do you feel like you need to pay attention to during this season of your life?

  • Start today: What can you do today that can help you love God / other people better tomorrow?
