March 17 - High School
What we’re doing this week:
If you’re not careful, you can grow up surrounding yourself with a bunch of normal friendships and zero friendships of depth. This week, we will share three necessary ingredients to a deeper friendship: Your commitment, your words, and your prayers.
Bottom Line: Growing up means diving deeper
Scripture: Ephesians 3:16-19, 4:2, 4:15, 6:18
Small Group:
Part 1: Think of a friendship of yours that is lacking spiritual depth: Which of the three ingredients Luke talked about tonight do you feel like are missing from that friendship?
Your commitment (i.e. you tend to bail when others fail)
Your words (i.e. you struggle to discuss Jesus / faith / grace in conversation)
Your prayers (i.e. you’ve never asked your friend how you can be praying for them)
Part 2: Here’s your homework!
If you said commitment… send your friend a text right now letting them know that you appreciate them. Not like “yo bro, you’ve got mad rizz fr” but actually genuine and real words.
If you said words… send your friend a text right now letting them know something simple God has been teaching you during this season of life.
If you said prayers… send your friend a text right now asking if there is anything you can be praying about for them right now.
Do you think there is ever an appropriate time to “bail” on a friendship when the other person fails?
On a scale of 1-5 (1=very uncomfortable / 5=completely comfortable) how comfortable are you talking about what God is doing in your life with your friends? Explain!
Do you have a rhythm for keeping track of the things you are praying for? How can you implement prayer for others into that? If not, would you want to begin tracking what you are praying for?
