What we’re learning this week:

Have you ever come across a situation or season of life that caused you to ask God, “Where are you?” During this series, we will talk about the life circumstances that cause us to ask questions like this and explore the answers. We will learn that drawing near to in all times is what we were made to do.

Some people talk about encountering God’s presence in power and it can cause us to wonder, “Is something wrong with me?” or “why don’t I feel God in THAT way?” Comparing our experiences with others can cause us to wonder, “Where is God when I don’t feel His presence?” During this conversation, students will be reminded that while there are times God communicates in tangible and powerful ways, He also invites us on a journey of having faith, even when He seems far.

Bottom Line: Faith requires faith

Scripture: 1 Kings 19:10-13, Romans 10:17, Hebrews 11:1

Small Group Discussion:

Series Key Verse: Psalm 10:1 (NIV) "Why, Lord, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?"

  • Go over the key verse from the series

  • Work through 2-4 of the discussion questions

  • Share prayer requests

  • Close time in prayer

  1. Which word best explains where you are at with pursuing God right now? Sailing / Rowing / Drifting / Sinking

  2. What is the difference between chasing an experience and pursuing God?

  3. What are some of the practices that help you get to know God in faith, even when you don’t feel His presence in a tangible way?

  4. Do you think you would be able to continue following Jesus for the rest of your life if you never experienced his manifested presence again?

  5. God often communicates in the quiet, what distracts you from spending time with Him in the quiet?

  6. Pray for each other as a group – that you would be able to walk in faith when you can’t feel God’s presence.
