September 17 - High School

What we’re learning this week:

You can know something with your brain without continuously taking the time to get to know it. It’s the same with the Holy Spirit; while our students might kind of, sort of, understand who the Holy Spirit is, we believe that we are called to continuously get to know Him. During this series, we will get to know who He is and explore what it looks like to spend time with Him.

As we begin our series about the Holy Spirit, we will start with a brief history of the Holy Spirit. Walking through how the Holy Spirit has worked in the story of the Bible, students will notice a theme of the Holy Spirit bringing life & order out of the chaos. They will also have time to reflect on the invitation, to walk with God and allow Him to bring real life and order out of the chaos of each of our lives.

Bottom Line: The Holy Spirit brings life in ways only He can.

Series Key Verse: Genesis 1:2, John 16:8-11, John 20:19-22, Galatians 5:16-17

Small Group Discussion

Work through some of these small group questions, invite the group to share prayer requests, and then have someone pray to close your time.

  • Go over the series key verse (we will touch on this verse every week of the series)

  • Choose 1-3 teaching discussion questions to discuss

  • Have everyone check out the “Intro to the holy spirit” page on lifelinestudents.org/grow & commit to doing the 5 day devotional this week.

  • Share prayer requests

  • Close your time with prayer

Series Key Verse: Galatians 5:25 – Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.

  1. The Holy Spirit may seem like a new topic of conversation – Is there anything new you learned tonight that you don’t want to forget?

  2. It’s hard to get to know someone you do not spend time with: Is there a time each day that you spend time with God in His Word or in prayer? If yes, share when that is with the group; if no, what time could work to build a habit of getting to know God?

  3. Have you had a moment in your life where you were certain it was God’s intervention? Share with the group

  4. What are some of the things that tend to keep you from spending time with God? Is there something you could do to make it easier for yourself to spend time getting to know God
