March 12 - Middle School
What we’re learning this week:
What did Jesus say about ____? This is a common question! The good news is that Jesus taught his followers about a variety of different things! This week, each campus will get to hear from their campus’ Lifeline Resident as they unpack one of the teachings of Jesus from the Gospels!
Cascade Campus - Kylie Yonker
Bottom Line: Worrying can’t change the outcome, but living a life with Jesus can bring peace in our situations.
Scripture: Matthew 6:25-34
East Paris Campus – Sarah Maschino
Bottom Line: What is at the heart of our words?
Scripture: Matthew 25:21-24
Kentwood Campus – Maddy Compton
Bottom Line: Though the world draws us to doubt God, God commands us to not be afraid just believe.
Scripture: Mark 5:21-43
Knapp Street Campus – Shane Hadley
Bottom Line: True Christ-like love shows itself through how we treat those that mistreat us and can change people’s hearts.
Scripture: Luke 6:27-36; Luke 23:33-37; Romans 5:8
Small Group Time:
Small Group Discussion: Cascade
What is something that you have been worried about lately?
How do you deal with stress or worry in your life?
Who is your go to person to talk about these worries? Why are they your safe person to go to?
If God is not your go to person, how can you give this worry to Him?
How can I as your small group leader help you with the things that you worried about?
Pray in pairs or small group over these worries.
Small Group Discussion: East Paris
Why do you think Jesus takes insulting people so seriously?
Take a minute to think about the way that you talk to the people closest to you. Do you think your words are helping or hurting those relationships?
Have someone read Romans 7:19-20. Are there areas of your life that you feel like you just keep doing what you do not want to do? Have you tried anything to break that cycle?
Have you ever felt the Holy Spirit nudging you to apologize to someone? How did you respond?
How does knowing Jesus affect how we talk to those around us?
Small Group Discussion: Kentwood
Take the next few minutes and discuss with your group the area of your life you feel stuck waiting on God's timing, or a moment in the past you had to wait on God's timing?
What are you struggling with jealousy over? Or what in your past have you been jealous about?
Take a moment to discuss with your groups why you are drawn to Jesus? What draws you to Him when you are facing hardships?
When you are going through hardships, are you more likely to doubt God's goodness, or run to God in prayer or read scripture for encouragement?
Maddy listed some things that she does to help her when she is struggling with fear/doubts, prayer, looking back on scripture, looking back on life, singing worship songs in the moment, which one of these sounds most appealing to you that you would like to try?
Small Group Discussion: Knapp Street
Have you ever had someone in your life say something mean to you, or about you? How did you respond to them?
How do you think that loving someone who doesn’t love you back could affect someone’s life?
What is something you could do to go out of your way to love someone who doesn’t treat you well?
How can we as a group be an encouragement for each other to love the people in our lives that might mistreat us?
How does knowing that Jesus died for us while we were His enemy change how you view other people who you consider your “enemy”?
Next week preview:
Next week, we will not be having Lifeline. Our church will be hosting the ‘Recourage’ conference for ministry leaders. We will be back for Lifeline on March 12 with a new series called: “___According to Jesus”.
