November 13 - Middle School
What we’re learning this week:
This week we will be taking a look at the story of Jesus cleansing the Leper of his spots. We will take time unpacking the story, to see the true loving and welcoming nature that Jesus offers. We will then look into our own lives to see what spots we might have. Things like not feeling good enough for Jesus, not feeling like me know enough, or maybe that we just aren't fully committed to our faith. These spots tell us to keep Jesus at arm’s length. But we see how Jesus treats the leper and we gain clarity for how He will treat us. Jesus cares more about you than your spots!
Bottom Line: Jesus cleanses. Jesus cares more about you than your spots.
Scripture: Matthew 8:1-4
Small Group Time:
Small group time is your time to lead! Your students are coming from a variety of backgrounds and will need your leadership to guide them towards practical application of tonight’s conversation! If something isn’t really generating conversation, move on, adjust, and try to get to a point where the conversation intersects with their life today!
What is the warmest welcome you’ve ever received?
Was there anything from the story of Jesus healing the leper that surprised you?
Is there something in your life that is keeping you at arm’s length from your faith?
What would you say your ‘spot’ is? What are you doing with that currently? (Ignoring it because you don’t wanna change? Internalizing and building shame/guilt? Or are you bringing it to God?)
How did Jesus respond to the Leper? How do you think he will respond to our spots?
Who in your life could benefit from a warm welcome? Invite them next week!
Next week preview:
Next week we will be looking at the story of Lazarus! Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead! We will spend some time unpacking that miracle! Then we will see how Jesus does that for us when we put our faith in Him! We were dead to sin, but Jesus brought us back to life!
