November 10 - High School
What we’re learning this week:
It’s discussion night!! This is our students’ opportunity to engage in the teaching content and discuss the teaching in real time. This week’s conversation is about influence. Students will learn that in their relationships and their entire lives, God has given them an opportunity to influence the world around them towards Him with their speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity.
Bottom Line: The darker the world, the brighter the opportunity.
Scripture: 1 Timothy 4:9-12, Matthew 5:14-16
Small Group Time:
This week is a discussion night! That means that the small group discussion will take place in real time during the teaching. Here are the discussion points we will go through as we unpack Paul’s letter to Timothy and Jesus’ words in the sermon on the mount!
Discussion 1: When you think of a celebrity or public figure who completely changed their industry/league/corner of society, who comes to mind and why?
Discussion 2: Read 1 Timothy 4:9-12 and discuss these questions…
In verse 10-11, Paul encourages Timothy to “labor and strive” – how can you tell the difference between striving and laboring FOR God’s love and striving and laboring FROM God’s love?
In verse 12, Paul calls Timothy to be an example in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity. Which of these words seems most “in the red” when you look at the world around you right now? Explain!
Discussion 3:
Which people would you say you have the most influence over right now? Name them!
Leader: Remind your students that next week is ‘invite’ night… Consider inviting these people to Lifeline if they are in High School as we will be talking about Jesus’ grace for sinners like us!
If you were to observe how you have done relationships, dating, and sexuality in your life thus far..
What is one way you have been a “light” or positive influence to those around you with your relationships, dating, and sexuality?
What is one thing you need to adjust in order to be a light with your relationships, dating, and sexuality?
Pair up your students and have them pray for each other!
Next week preview:
As we conclude our “Not Normal” series, we will talk about the extravagant grace that Jesus offers to everyone: that regardless of who we have been or what we have done, he offers us his love and forgiveness.
