November 15 - Middle School
What we’re learning this week:
Jacob is one of the most important figures of the Old Testament; in fact, God Himself is often described as the “God of Jacob”. When we explore Jacob’s story and discover that this influential figure had his fair share of mistakes, we will be reminded that God can use anyone.
As we conclude this series, we will look at a few of the last scenes of his life all the way to his passing. Right before Jacob dies, he takes time to bless his children and tell them of God’s goodness. In fact. This is the very thing that Jacob is honored for in the New Testament. Jacob’s blessing to his sons shows us that in the ups and downs of our journey, we will be imperfect, but we can tell the story of the perfect God.
Bottom Line: This the journey of faith: Imperfect people following a perfect God.
Scripture: Genesis 49, Hebrews 11:21
Small Group Discussion
Series Key Verse: "I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you." Genesis 28:15
1. What did I miss? (Have students recap the teaching you missed because you were with parents at parent night!)
2. Recap the series: Jacob the deceiver → Jacob’s dream → Jacob Wrestling with God → Jacob reuniting with Esau → Jacob blessing his sons
3. At the end of Jacob’s life, he tells his sons of God’s goodness → how comfortable would you say you are with telling the people you love about God’s goodness?
4. Leader: Pray for your students, that they would trust in God’s perfection even when they are far from perfect.
