What we’re learning this week:

Jacob is one of the most important figures of the Old Testament; in fact, God Himself is often described as the “God of Jacob”. When we explore Jacob’s story and discover that this influential figure had his fair share of mistakes, we will be reminded that God can use anyone.

As we begin our series on Jacob, we will explore the most well known part of his journey: when he deceives his father and steals the blessing from his brother. Based on this story, you’d be surprised that Jacob would be a recipient of God’s promises and a foundation of His blessing! But God uses broken people to do beautiful things.

Bottom Line: God uses broken people to do beautiful things.

Scripture: Genesis 27

Small Group Discussion

Series Key Verse: "I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you." Genesis 28:15

  • What reasons do you think people would give to why they can’t possibly be used by God?

  • Did you know anything about Jacob before tonight? Share with the group!

  • Jacob’s big problem was his deceit— is there a recurring sin issue that you have dealt with in your life? Feel free to share as much as you’d like.

  • What ways has God used you to bless other people?
