October 27 - High School

What we’re learning this week:

As we continue our Not Normal teaching series, we will discuss the common misconception that we often live into: That God only cares about the spiritual part of our lives. This belief can cause us to diminish sexual sin, dismiss God’s calling on our lives, and place our faith journey into a smaller box than it was ever intended to be placed in. Students will be reminded that because God created us and redeemed us, we are called to follow him with all of us.

Bottom Line: God created you*, redeems you*, and calls you* (Body, Soul, and Spirit)*
Scripture: Genesis 1:27, Psalm 139:13-18, 1 Corinthians 6:18-20

Small Group Time:

Small group time is your time to lead! Your students are coming from a variety of backgrounds and will need your leadership to guide them towards practical application of tonight’s important conversation! If something isn’t really generating conversation, move on, adjust, and try to get to a point where the conversation intersects with their life today! One more note: because of the nature of the conversation, it might be smart to remind students that anything said in group will be confidential and hold students to that commitment.

  1. If you were to rate how you typically view yourself on a scale of 1-10 (1=I struggle to even like myself at all / 10= I totally love myself) what number would you choose?

  2. Is there an area of your sexuality or relationships that you find it difficult to say, “I am following God with this”?

  3. Are there any areas outside of the realm of relationships or sexuality that you find difficult to give over control to God?

  4. Were there any words from tonight’s teaching that you feel like were specifically for you to remember or hold on to during this season of your life?

  5. Of the ways Luke talked about we diminish the body, which one most resonated with you?

Next week preview:

Next week we are midway through the series! We will take an evening to hear stories from the volunteers and staff as it relates to topics around relationships, dating, and sexuality. The story share night will follow the theme of sharing times in our lives where we acknowledged that what God was inviting us into was far greater than what was normal or expected.
