September 15 - High School

What we’re learning this week:

The focal point of the Christian faith is Jesus Christ. During week two of Theology for Regular Folks, we will discuss who Jesus is and consider how we respond to him. This conversation is a significant “define the relationship” moment for our students to consider how Jesus impacts their life now and forever.

Bottom Line: Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.
Scripture: John 14:1-7 & Romans 5:18-19

Small Group Time:

Tonight’s small group discussion is a big one because we are unpacking who Jesus is and how we have (or haven’t) responded to him in our lives. If you want to highlight the significance of the conversation, consider beginning with prayer before jumping into the discussion.

  1. We ended tonight’s conversation about Jesus with a moment of silent prayer for you to consider your response to who he is… Share what was going on in your mind and heart during that time of silence with the group.

  2. Jesus is the way: What unanswered questions loom in your mind about the cross or the resurrection? *Leader, feel free to write them down and process them with a staff member if need be!

  3. Jesus is the truth: What lies have you fallen into believing about yourself or God during this season? How can you recalibrate to the truth of Jesus?

  4. Jesus is the life: Do you find yourself relying on other things to bring you the lasting joy and peace that Jesus can provide? What are those things?

  5. Action step: How do you want to respond to Jesus this week?

Next week preview:

There is often a huge gap between who we are and the person we know we are called to be. Next week’s conversation is about the struggle of dealing with our human brokenness and the gift of the Holy Spirit that followers of Jesus are given to transform us from the inside out and remind us of God’s grace when we fail.
